Exploring London: Must-sees For Your Next Trip!

London is my favorite city in the world!

London is my favorite city in the world!

Many of us are itching to get out of the house and start planning our next vacation. (It’s never too early to start bookmarking places, right?) In case you hadn’t already decided on where to go, let me just go ahead and recommend one of my all-time favorite cities to visit…LONDON!

I’m obsessed with London, so if you’re looking for all the best places to see, things to do, and food to try, this post is for you.

London is a city rich in history and full of character – from world-renowned museums and a thriving music scene to its prestigious universities and London Fashion Week. Oh, and one couldn’t possibly forget to mention its sensational food, making this city an all-around Foodie’s paradise!

Thankfully, London is also easy to navigate thanks to TFL, London’s transport system. You can choose to explore the city using a range of low-fare options including the famous London Underground (tube) as well as rail, buses and Santander Cycle bikes. Make sure to collect a map or download the TFL app to make the most out of your stay!

There’s no doubting that there is plenty to enjoy in London. If you’re unsure about how to fit it all in, I highly recommend exploring the city region by region. Here’s a list of just some of my top-rated things to do and see across London:

North London

(Camden Town, Euston, King’s Cross, Hampstead)

Camden Market sprawling food stalls are not to be missed!

Camden Market sprawling food stalls are not to be missed!

Camden Market – This hipster, edgy market is great for food and small boutiques. Among all the unique shops, I highly recommend visiting one called Koo Style - my favorite shop to accessorize my denim, and spend hours exploring their thousands of different embroidered patches!

Hampstead Heath – Need a breath of fresh air? This popular open space is a short tube ride away from Camden town offering ponds, woodlands, playgrounds and even a lido, for those willing to take the plunge during an English summer.

Pret A Manger – There’s hardly a trip to London where I don’t come into “Pret” a handful of times (with a big smile on my face). This healthier grab-and-go chain is around every corner offering a quick and affordable way to enjoy tasty sandwiches, salads, fruit bowls and more! Additional price perks if you happen to bring a reusable coffee cup.

Central London

(Covent Garden/Oxford Circus/Seven Dials/Tottenham Court Road/Piccadilly Circus)

London’s West End - It should be at the top of your list already, but make sure to book tickets for a show once the boxes offices open up (currently scheduled for Jan 2021). I try to catch at least one show when I visit and I always swing by the TKTS booth in the early morning to pick up discounted tickets - you’ll get major savings with these! There are so many great shows to choose from, but highly recommend ‘The Play That Goes Wrong’ for a comedy.

Nappa Dori – Why wouldn’t you explore a range of beautiful, handmade leather bags in the heart of a fashion capital?

Caravan Fitzrovia – Enjoy brunch here as you marvel at the stunning interior, which was once home to the BBC Radio 1 HQ. If you need a suggestion, the baked eggs are delicious!

Fortnum & Mason – If you’re looking for a place to enjoy traditional afternoon tea, may I suggest Fortnum & Mason’s for the real deal? They offer a fabulous luxury experience from quintessential tea to browsing their exquisite food and gifts. (Pro tip: they offer unlimited refills on finger sandwiches so be ready to load up on carbs.) Definitely try their Lady Grey tea, it’s a favorite.

Rococo Chocolates – Never a bad time for chocolate and these truffles are divine.

James Smith & Sons Ltd – A quirky and original Victorian shop full of fancy little umbrellas.

Golden Union - As your shopping spree comes to a close on Oxford Street, make sure to stop by this retro ‘chippy’ for a serving of some of the best fish ‘n’ chips around!

Ben’s Cookies - If you are a cookie person (which who isn’t?!) these are a MUST. Warm, gooey and fresh off the conveyor belt is always the way to go. Be still my heart.

Cahoots - As one of London’s best secret bars, this 1940s Cocktail bar transports you back in time to a disused underground station serving themed cocktails, snacks and live swinging entertainment. Make sure to make a reservation ahead and don’t get lost – this is an experience to remember.

West London (Kensington & Chelsea)

(Notting Hill, South Kensington, Gloucester Road, High Street Kensington)

Carnaby Street – Take a detour from London’s busy traffic to stroll down this pedestrian street in Soho, home to many independent restaurants, bars, and fashion boutiques.

EL&N – A trendy café serving delicious food and drink, plus arguably an Instagram institution with its pretty floral-themed displays and marble tables.

Natural History Museum – For history-lovers and for those who didn’t even think they enjoyed history, this is a to-do for everyone and you’ll easily lose track of time getting lost in this stunning museum.

Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) – While you’re in the museum spirit, try visiting next door (literally), as you’ll find the world’s leading museum of art and design. This area of London is just perfect for keeping entertained, especially on a rainy day!

Farm Girl Coffee – This is a great little spot for a pick-me-up or to get some work done. A café with space like this can be hard to come by in London, so take note!

If I could only choose one place to be in London, it would be Notting Hill!

If I could only choose one place to be in London, it would be Notting Hill!

Portobello Market – If the rom-com featuring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts hadn’t already persuaded you to visit Notting Hill, this market and the beautiful surrounding neighborhoods will. Explore vintage teacups and exciting food stalls as you make your way down Portobello Road. If you see a bruschetta stand, get the bruschetta – trust me.

Gail’s Bakery – You’ll find this cute café chain dotted around London. Some are smaller than others, but one of their best spots is on Portobello Road. Enjoy one of their Tahini bites with your oat milk latte, while you watch the bustling market outside.

Gold (Notting Hill) – After marveling at the beautifully etched mural by Portuguese artist Vhils outside, take a step into this posh, boho-chic restaurant. Great for people watching as you enjoy a range of small plates and the smell of a wood-fired oven served to you in a lush garden-like setting.  The mushrooms on toast are the perfect umami-bomb.

Ottolenghi Notting Hill – Please put up with the wait and experience one of Ottolenghi’s sensational sweet treats! This place is always busy for a reason….believe me on this! Ottolenghi is to London what Tartine is to San Francisco.

South London

(Bank, London Bridge, Waterloo)

South Bank – London’s cultural district that is home to the London Eye, National Theatre, art galleries and more. If you’re there during the Winter months, wrap up warm and enjoy some hot chocolate as you shop the Christmas market on the waterfront.

Comptoir Libanais (London Bridge) – This Lebanese restaurant chain is a clear favorite in London offering delicious Mezze platters and a stunning instagrammable interior!

Tate Modern – Many of London’s museums are FREE to visit, and this one should be at the top of your list. Explore the iconic galleries showcasing a collection of modern art from around the world.

Borough Market – Immerse yourself in the ultimate foodie experience. If you can, take this highly recommended gastrotour with Celia. A special mention goes to the following: Bath Soft Cheese Company, Borough Olives (the tapenades are to die for!) and definitely save room for one of the best scotch eggs around, courtesy of Scotchtails!

Millennium Bridge – Enjoy beautiful views of London on both sides of the Thames, as you cross over to St. Paul’s.

East London

Stations (Bethnal Green, Liverpool Street, Mile End)

Victoria Park - A beautiful park that edges part of the canal and a go-to spot for dog walkers and families. Highly recommend visiting the Pavilion Café for brunch by the water or enjoying the park’s Sunday Farmer’s Market for fresh pastries and some of the best street food in the area.

BOXPARK (Shoreditch) - A quirky & young area that is home to many bars, local artists, street food & more.

Beigel Bake - Whether you’ve been rummaging through the vintage stores or you’ve been enjoying the Happy Hour a little too much in Shoreditch, this 24-hour bakery will satisfy any meat-lover’s needs with its famous Salt Beef sandwiches.

Dishoom - This restaurant is one not to miss. From its beautiful interior and insatiable food, Dishoom brings a taste of Bombay to London. It is definitely a popular destination for food but well worth the wait. Luckily, there are now several locations across London to choose from but make sure to get there early for a spot!

Old Spitalfields Market – This is one of East London’s most popular markets just a short stroll from Liverpool Street station. If you’re into boutique shopping, Old Spitalfields will not disappoint. Highly recommend sampling the Masala chai tea here and stopping by the Montezuma’s chocolate shop for a sweet treat!

Cay Tre Hoxton – Voted London’s favorite Pho, Cay Tre won’t disappoint your taste buds with its fresh, authentic Vietnamese dishes and seasonal tasting menus!

There are so many incredible places to visit in London, and these are just a small sampling of my favorites! If you get a chance to visit one or all of these places, be sure to let me know what you think, but most importantly - have an amazing time!

To Your Health & Wellness,

Dr. Therese
